Architects discuss their hypothetical proposals for the V&A’s Boilerhouse space and yard

Eight architects were recently commissioned by the V&A to develop hypothetical designs for the redevelopment of the museum’s old Boilerhouse space and yard. Tony Fretton, Charlie Hussey and Jamie Fobert, Roisin Heneghan, Francicso Mangado, Robert Snohetta and Helen Billson will discuss their studies for the project and the challenges involved in responding to this and other clients’ briefs at a free museum event on 13 July.

The V&A brief called for 1,500 square metres of new temporary exhibition space below ground, with a courtyard at street level, leading on to Exhibition Road and responding to Dixon Jones’ scheme to re-design the streetscape. It is intended to provide a flexible space which may be used for temporary installations and a summer cafĂ©, and to allow future generations to build above ground on the site.
