FAQs

What is Architecture Today?
Architecture Today is a high quality, controlled circulation monthly magazine that provides the best possible means of influencing the specifying decisions of architects.

Who publishes it?
Architecture Today was set up at the instigation of architects. Launched over 15 years ago, it is published by an independent company in which the majority of shareholders are architects, representing some 70 architectural practices from around the UK.

What is its editorial policy?
Architecture Today is a magazine conceived by architects for architects. It covers the projects of most interest to the practising architect, with photography and layout of the highest standard and articles written by working architects.

What advertising opportunities does it provide?
Everything from double page spreads to literature panels and from sponsored covers to advertisement features. Special opportunities for advertising are provided by the product features (see Special Features) and project studies, while the personalised faxback sheet and bound-in reader enquiry cards ensure maximum sales leads response. All advertisements are within editorial, with no advertisement-only sections or ‘graveyards’.

What about other promotional opportunities?
Architecture Today offers the widest available range of promotional opportunities aimed at UK architects. These include sponsored technology features, advertisement features and sponsored front covers in the main magazine as well as AT• Handbook (quarterly), DataPack product cards (quarterly), EcoTech (bi-annual) – plus loose inserts, banners on the website (www.architecturetoday.co.uk) and list rental. Recent promotional activities include the Spectrum Student Awards and two nationwide series of seminars with Pilkington and the Architecture Today Masterclass at Stratford with wood.for good.

Who receives Architecture Today?
Architecture Today has an average net circulation of 21,431 (July 2004–June 2005) and is sent to the 19,366 architects in full-time practice in the UK. So there is no ‘waste’ – no unemployed or retired architects or students – and no need to rely on pass-on readership. The list of names is based on the Register of Architects held by the statutory registration body, the Architects Registration Board. Architecture Today is also sent to more than 1600 key members of related professions. A fully-audited and independent breakdown of the circulation is provided by Architecture Today’s ABC Profile certificate.

Do architects want to receive Architecture Today?
Yes, overwhelmingly – 95% of the controlled free circulation is requested and 74% of the requests are less than 12 months old.

What is the difference between ARB and RIBA?
Under the Architects Act, the term ‘architect’ is protected – only those on the Register of Architects are permitted to use the title. The statutory body set up by parliament to administer the register is the Architects Registration Board (ARB – formerly ARCUK). As such, the ARB is quite distinct from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), which is a voluntary association of architects in the UK and overseas. A significant number of UK registered architects choose not to join the RIBA: according to recent figures, one in five of the registered architects in the UK are not members of the RIBA.

What is an ABC Profile?
The ABC Profile is the independent guarantee of a magazine’s circulation carried out by the industry’s audit body, the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Unlike the standard ABC certificate, the ABC Profile shows exactly who the magazine is reaching – what profession they belong to, where they work and what type of company they work for. Architecture Today is the only A4 architectural title with the guarantee of an ABC Profile.
