Insulating concrete forms provide a simple yet effective method of constructing durable, energy-efficient buildings quickly and cost-effectively. Central to Nudura’s success has been its ability to manufacture a comprehensive suite of integrated systems that allows specifiers to successfully complete design-led projects across residential, education, healthcare and commercial sectors. So how does the world’s leading ICF manufacturer innovate and what products does it provide?

Nudura produces four distinct product series: ICF, One, Plus+ and Integrated. Its systems are based on permanent hollow expanded polystyrene (EPS) formwork into which in-situ concrete is poured, forming walls and other elements. Common to all the company’s forms are four patented technologies: Duralok, Durafold, Duramax, and the four-way reversible system.

Patented technologies
Duramax technology ensures the largest (2438x457mm) standard forms in the industry, facilitating faster build times, less waste and reduced seams. Duralok fastening strips are designed to lock EPS forms securely in place, eliminating float and compression, as well as the need to wire tie forms. Nudura’s innovative foam interlock eschews left and right corners, enabling forms to be used in twice as many conditions as non-reversible ones. It also eliminates practically all waste. Last but not least, Durafold is a hinged web that allows ICF products to be shipped flat. This can increase transport capacity on lorries by 40 per cent compared to other ICF forms.

Nudura ICF
Available in five standard sizes: 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm and 300mm, Nudura ICF is compatible with a full range of product accessories, from bracing to waterproofing. It can also be custom-cut to form radii.

One Series
Providing high levels of versatility, the One Series is a versatile multi-link form incorporating Dura Multi-Link webs. It facilitates the construction of custom multi-sided form combinations for a range of different building types and applications. The system is particularly suited to swimming pools and other structures where only one side of foam is needed.

Plus Series
The aptly named Plus Series allows specifiers to add more insulation to the forms. Four standard sizes of foam can be added: 25mm, 50mm, 100mm and 150mm. These provide U-values of 0.21W/m²K, 0.18W/m²K, 0.14W/m²K, and 0.11W/m²K respectively. The additional insulation is bonded to the formwork using an EPS-approve adhesive. Alternatively, U-value Plus inserts can be slid into one side of the form unit (using a grooved dovetail system) to boost thermal performance. Available in 50mm, 100mm and 150mm sizes, they deliver U-values of 0.18W/m²K, 0.14W/m²K, and 0.11W/m²K.

Integrated Series
Designed to work in conjunction with ICFs, maximising energy-efficiency, the Integrated Series comprises three building envelope products: Hydrofoam, Retrofit and Ceiling & Floor Technology. Hydrofoam is a lightweight, high-density expanded polystyrene (EPS) product that ensures radiant heat is dispersed evenly throughout the floor. Aimed at residential projects, the interlocking 1.2×1.2-metre boards can be specified in thicknesses of 64mm and 102mm. A 360-degree, multi-directional friction-fit anchor system facilitates the easy installation of radiant heat pipes.

Retrofit panels can be used to insulate the interior and/or exterior of existing structures, quickly and easily. Available in thicknesses of 67mm, 89mm and 98mm, the EPS panels measure 1.2×2.4 metres, and fit together using a simple shiplap system. On interior applications, plasterboard sheets are attached to 64mm-wide fixing points located at 400mm centres.

Nudura Ceiling Technology is a high-performance insulation system, designed to reduce air infiltration and thermal bridging. The panels, which measure 2.4×1.2 metres, comprise two layers of CFC- and HCFC-free foam with a 38mm perimeter overlap to minimise air leakage. Embedded timber straps facilitate fast and easy mechanical fixing to the roof trusses. The system reduces air infiltration to such an extent that no other vapour control layer is required.

Nudura Floor Technology is an under-slab insulation system comprising interlocking, moulded EPS foam panels. Measuring 2.4×0.6 metres, the units provide a cost-effective base for radiant floor heating, and are designed to avoid the cracking and crumbling characteristics associated with wire-cut insulation products.
