Shortlist announced for the 2017 Structural Steel Design Awards

The shortlist for the 49th Structural Steel Design Awards (SSDA) has been announced by the British Constructional Steelwork Association and Steel for Life.

“The Awards have again seen a strong number of submissions and the 17 shortlisted projects once again showcase steel’s flexibility and versatility in a number of different and varying applications”, says the BCSA. “The entries this year reflect the wide geographical spread of steel’s appeal for a variety of projects”.

Shortlisted entries include both structural frames for a high-rise tower (RSH&P’s Leadenhall Building) and a wide-span sports venue (Oriam, by Reiach & Hall), along with facade elements (Gianni Botsford Architects’ Layered Gallery) and highly-crafted interior interventions, such as Wilkinson Eyre’s Dynamic Stair for the Wellcome Trust. Shortlisted infrastructural projects include Glenn Howells Architects’ aerial walkway at Westonbirt Arboretum and a new footbridge for Southampton’s Watermark Quay, designed by architect ACME.
