VELUX Commercial Xtralite’s latest AOV combines natural ventilation with increased access
The latest Automatic Opening Vent (AOV) to be launched by leading rooflight manufacturer VELUX Commercial Xtralite, is set to give specifiers and installers a quality new option balancing safety, access and natural ventilation requirements. The glass, polycarbonate or solid lid AOV opens automatically on smoke detection and can be operated manually to facilitate natural ventilation. It also has a concealed motor and wiring option, which provides a clear unobstructed view and makes escape simple and safe should the need arise.
Regulatory compliance
The updated range, which boasts glazing and solid lid options, opens upon detection of smoke and is fully controllable through the Building Management System. This gives building users and managers reassurance and control. Furthermore, it has been fully tested in all configurations and certified to EN12101 – 2:2003 – a legal requirement under the Construction Products Regulation 2013 to support natural ventilation and access. In addition, the new AOV supports essential requirements in both domestic and commercial applications, keeping buildings and people safe, as well as conforming to Parts B and L of the Building Regulations. The new AOV from Xtralite also delivers a ‘future proofing’ aspect as it already meets the necessary requirements surrounding proposed changes to legislation.
Increased specification
To support roofscapes and internal aesthetics, the units are available in duel colours and benefit from a thermally broken kerb or upstand to reduce the risk of condensation. All variations come with a weather hood as standard to also reduce the risk of debris or driving rain from entering the building in adverse weather conditions, when used for natural ventilation. In order to supplement the AOV rooflights, Xtralite also provides a series of compatible control panels and sensors, which further simplify the specification process.
